Delhi, India
Some of the world's finest collections of Indian art sit in museums abroad: the Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Art History departments near these collections train scholars who can study, catalogue and interpret them. A PhD in Art History abroad suits graduates in art history, visual studies, archaeology, history, fine arts or architecture who want to research painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, textiles or contemporary art. Indian applicants who know temple architecture, Mughal and Rajput painting, or modern Indian art bring rare expertise.
