Delhi, India
India has a rich history of feminist thought and activism, from 19th-century reformers to the women's movements of the 1970s, Dalit feminism, queer organising and today's debates on work, violence and law. Departments of Gender Studies abroad increasingly look for scholars who can bring these histories into global feminist theory. A PhD in Gender Studies abroad is interdisciplinary. You'll draw on history, literature, sociology, anthropology, philosophy and political theory to study how gender and sexuality shape lives, institutions and ideas. It suits graduates from women's studies, sociology, English, history, development studies, law and related fields.
Learn feminist theory, queer theory, intersectionality and transnational feminism alongside methods from several disciplines.
Place Indian debates on caste, religion and labour in conversation with global feminist scholarship.
Standalone PhDs, joint degrees and graduate certificates have expanded in the USA and Europe.
Policy, human rights, development, health and media all need gender expertise.
